TOPIC:THE PRODIGAL SON’S PERSPECTIVE
Text: Luke 15:20–22
Golden Verse:The son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.” – Luke 15:21
BIBLE READING IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 19–20
The wasteful son came to his senses to returned to his father and repented, confessed his sins and asked for mercy. Perspective is way one sees things. Some things can appear different to your relative to someone else viewing it. God perspective is the reconciliation and restoration of fallen man. The father of the prodigal son was longing for his lost son, and was still a long way off his father saw him coming. The father was expectant, waiting and ran to his son to embrace him. He is filled with love and compassion for us. He accepts us no matter how far we may have strayed away. Then we turn our hearts towards Him Jesus came to save humanity. In Luke 19:10, Jesus states this as His purpose, “For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost”.
Good enough, the prodigal son had the perspective of God through reconciliation with his father. He did not put up a perspective of one who was entitled, like after all his father’s resources which was allocated to me that I squandered, he should receive me back. He acknowledged his depravity like one who had lost his exalted status. In coming back to your father, come down from one who rose to receive the grace that abounds.
When God, through His Son’s death, you become a new creation of God and you join in the ministry of reconciling men to God. 2 Cor 5:17–20 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. NIV
How far is your heart from God? This is not talking about how things look on the outside to others but to how it looks to God. He is concerned about your heart. Is it turned towards to him? Is it broken? Is it open and honest about your rebellion and sin with him? He is not looking to punish you, but to bring you home, to bring you back to life, where you can also enjoy the welcome party. God long to show you compassion. Don’t stay where you are heavy laden, but run to him, who is already running towards you. Jettison every form of entitlement and repent now! Do not justify or excuse your sin, repent and receive God’s mercy and forgiveness.
PRAYER:
Father thank you for reconciling me unto yourself by the death of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen
